NEW ATOMIC SHIFT² BINDINGS: AN UPGRADE IN FREERIDE TOURING
Building on the groundbreaking Shift binding launched six years ago, Atomic introduces the next-generation Shift² for 2024/25. Integrating design feedback from and approved by renowned Atomic freeride athletes, the upgraded Shift² binding offers a whole new level of precision, power, and durability. It perfectly balances full touring capabilities with a robust construction for powerful downhill performance and is available in two DIN options, plus a new DEMO version.
GAME-CHANGER IN FREERIDE TOURING
The original Shift was introduced in 2018 as the world’s first binding with full touring and freeride capability in one – pin binding with tech inserts uphill, genuine freeride binding with TÜV certified alpine toe and heel pieces downhill. Compatible with all ISO normed alpine and touring boots on the market, it soon became the top choice for freeride touring bindings. Six years, countless hours on skin tracks and millions of vertical meters later, the new Shift² builds upon this foundation, vastly improving the original design based on rigorous testing and feedback from elite athletes. It’s the next level freeride touring binding, ensuring even greater performance and reliability in the most demanding conditions.
Complementing the top-tier Shift² 13 MN, the Shift² 10 MN is also available as a DEMO version.
THE TECH: MICRO-ADJUSTABLE AFD, OVERSIZED WINGS AND TOE LEVER
Compared with the original Shift, the Shift² boasts a couple of important updates. At the heart of the Shift²'s design is a focus on robust precision and maximized durability. The new micro-adjustable AFD features a single-block aluminum insert located inside, integrally supporting the AFD while allowing micrometric up and down adjustment via a central screw for an extremely precise fit with the boot interface. The result is a binding with 30% more lateral stiffness in the toe for superior power transfer. In addition, the updated, oversized wings and toe lever deliver greater reinforcement for improved shock resistance, durability, and reliability. A redesigned brake lever provides a more reliable locking function and eliminates unintentional release while the updated climbing aid adds 4mm of lift. Like its predecessor, the Shift² features a revolutionary hybrid ski/walk function for pin binding mobility on the way up and alpine stability on the way down.
Equipped with a longer 60mm rail, the Shift² 10 MN DEMO accommodates a wider range of boot sizes for full rental capability.
“The updated Shift feels much more responsive and consistent than the previous version. Much better control and really great skiability.”
Mathieu Navillod
“I think the original binding works really well, but when I got the new Shift² I instantly felt more secure with the toe. This to me is an incredible binding.”
Chris Rubens
“I’ve been putting in lots of time on the Shift² bindings and they have been vastly better. No easy releases, and they certainly inspire more confidence.”
Nick McNutt
SHIFT² 13 MN: THE ULTIMATE FREERIDE TOURING BINDING
The pinnacle of the series, the Shift² 13 MN, epitomizes the ultimate freeride touring binding. Integrating feedback from Atomic's team of freeride athletes, it balances full touring capabilities with a robust construction for powerful downhill performance like never before. The upgraded binding features a new Micro AFD for a more precise fit with the boot interface, and the aluminum Power Block inside the AFD reinforces the connection for enhanced lateral stiffness and improved power transfer. Larger toe wings and an oversized toe lever increase shock resistance and durability, while a redesigned brake lever ensures a more reliable locking function. Multi Norm Certified, the Shift² 13 MN fits every normed boot on the market. Built for touring to isolated powder fields and freeriding the most adventurous slopes, it’s the perfect blend of pin binding mobility with alpine stability.
The new Shift² bindings are available at selected dealers in February 2024.
