WITH THE NEW BACKLAND HELMETS ATOMIC COMBINES PROTECTION, FUNCTIONALITY AND FIT FOR SKI TOURERS

Press release -

A SKI TOURING HELMET THAT CAN DO IT ALL

For the 22-23 season Atomic presents its first ever ski touring helmet with the same tone-setting innovative ingenuity as usual. The Backland helmet is a lightweight touring model certified for winter sports, climbing, and cycling. It not only provides superior protection, but it also comes with no compromise in fit and functionality. That said, it offers the best possible comfort for skimo athletes and demanding ski tourers alike, while being lightweight and equipped with all the important features. With its Shocksense Sensor the Backland CTD version even features an SOS alert function and evaluates the impact of a crash on the helmet integrity.

A ski touring helmet must be as light as possible and well ventilated – a task that most conventional ski helmets cannot live up to. Depending on the type (all-round tourer, ski mountaineer or freeride tourer), ski tourers, however, have further needs hardly any ski touring helmet has been able to meet entirely – until now. Following intensive internal research and development at Atomic, the Backland helmet has been created to fill that void: a super-lightweight touring model in various versions meeting all the requirements of ski touring.

Whether you’re on an after-work tour night climb or on the last descent after a tough multi-day tour stage: protection can never be compromised, because protecting your head is essential, anytime, and anywhere. With AMID, Holo Core construction, and Shocksense technology, the different variants of the Backland helmet offer exactly the protection you need to be your best in the mountains. It is so comfortable and lightweight you hardly feel it, and that’s exactly what will make you wear it when it matters – every time. In addition, it is built with the intelligent 360º Fit System, allowing adjustment on every axis, and ensuring a perfect custom fit right out of the box. Fueled by ski touring technology and expertise in developing ski helmets, the Backland range delivers high-end performance. With multi-norm certification, the Backland helmets meet safety standards for skiing, climbing, and cycling. In short, they are made for the mountains.

All models in detail:

Atomic Backland helmet

Atomic's Backland series has always been about practical, top-quality touring equipment for every skier, and the Backland helmet is exactly that: It offers a perfect balance of safety, comfort, and performance. It comes with a full-cap ski liner and an additional skimo liner in the box and it is multi-norm certified; that means it can not only be used for skiing, but also for climbing and cycling – ready for any activity all year round. Holocore and AMID (Atomic Multi-Directional Impact Deflector) provide up to 40% more impact protection than industry safety standards require. The Hybrid EPP in-mold construction is durable, lightweight, and extremely secure, while incorporated PC microshells add structural reinforcement to the helmet without adding weight. The Backland helmet also features lots of little details that make a big difference: headlamp fixation, detachable strap station, and a reflective element for better visibility in the dark.

Atomic Backland UL helmet

The new Backland UL from Atomic is perfectly tailored to athletes and ski tourers who count every gram when on tour. Every detail is designed for safety and comfort while keeping the weight as low as possible: The hybrid EPP in-mold construction is robust, lightweight and offers maximum protection. Underneath the helmet shell, Holocore and AMID (Atomic Multi-Directional Impact Deflector) provide about 40% more impact protection than the industry standard requires, while being super lightweight. The helmet is multi-norm certified (for skiing, climbing, and cycling) and with its ventilated skimo liner it is suitable for winter tours as well as summer bike rides. In addition, it offers the same well-thought-out features as all Backland helmets: headlamp fixation, removable strap station, and a reflective element for greater safety in the dark.

Atomic Backland CTD helmet

Extended weekend tour, quick lap after work ... whatever you’re up to, the Atomic Backland CTD is the all-round touring helmet you need. It features Shocksense, Atomic's new smart helmet technology with built-in SOS alert function for added safety on tours, plus impact detection that monitors the helmet's condition. The Backland CTD stands out in how well it is balanced: its hybrid EPP in-mold construction is durable, lightweight, and extremely safe, and the PC microshells structurally reinforce the helmet without adding weight. Inside the shell, impact protection is up to 40% higher than industry safety standards require, thanks to Holocore and AMID (Atomic Multi-Directional Impact Deflector). It comes with a full-cap ski liner and a skimo liner and it is multi-norm certified – suitable for skiing, climbing, and cycling. So the Backland CTD is ready for any activity, all year round. And like all Backland helmets, it features lots of little details that make a big difference: headlamp fixation, removable strap station, and a reflective element for better visibility in the dark.
